A butterfly reflects upon a memory. A film without words.
A short animated film that compares the evolutional stage of the life cycle of a butterfly with that of mankind. Most of the butterflys memory takes place inside an apple. The apple is the symbol of the Earth, which is the basis of all efforts and hopes of mankind. The characters in the film who are men and caterpillars try to find their way to the exit from a confusion of ways, entrance halls, and vestibules. They strive to reach the sun and blue sky while escaping from the darkness of hell. Their search begins during Stone age and continues throughout history.
Their journey is filled with the hazards. They face countless barriers and obstacles, and must make proper decisions to overcome these problems. Some of their decisions are well thought out and planed while others happen by chance. In the end they find exit way and come out.
In spite of a disappointing conclusion for the first caterpillar the second one survives and passes the pupa stage in a cocoon to become a beautiful butterfly. The man goes back inside the hole, while his twin on the outside of the apple swallows the worm-eaten fruit and finally metamorphoses into a worm and disappears into a crypt. What is the hope for mankind?
